FAQs
FAQs
This is the section that deals with the many, many questions that we get asked all the time, especially from new models. It's quite long and there's lots of useful info here so persevere.
How Do I Get Started in Modelling?Believe it or not, this is not an easy one to answer. People find success through all different doors of opportunity and all want different levels of success. It all depends on where you set your sights and what you want to achieve.
If you wanted to be a Plumber or a Beauty Technician then the training opportunities are endless but with Modelling there a very few training programmes available, if any!
One of the best ways to get into modelling is to ask someone who has already achieved some level of success. There's nothing like getting good sound advice from the horses mouth! If you know someone who does modelling work go with them on a fashion show or photo shoot and see how it all works. Putting yourself in front of different photographers may just lead to an opportunity that you didn't expect. Ask lots of questions and hang around other people in the business....some of their success will eventually rub off on you.
Most work is found through a Modelling Agency, simply because people don't know how to go about sourcing their own work opportunities but if this is the route you choose then get yourself some pickies together and go knock on the door...you won't be turned away but check out the agency very carefully and make sure you don't get scammed! There's also a few networking and casting sites around star now and model mayhem are 2 we'd recommend from personnel point of veiw, great sites for finding work in your area.
Keep away from dodgy talent scouts and those who advertise photo-shoots at local hotels, these are usually a scam and feature regularly in the TV news. Remember, as with any career, it's all about climbing ladders...start on the bottom rung and work your way up.
Plan your career properly. If you're 5'2'' and dumpy then you won't make the fashion catwalk but if you have amazing size 5 feet and gorgeous ears then you have work waiting.
Who Are Modelicious? Is a dedicated team of professionals with many years experience in the modelling industry.
How Do I Apply To Join Modelicious?
Click on the join us page and upload a snap shot of yourself (doesn't need to be professional) once we receive it we will get back to you with in a week. If we are accepting applicants at that time we will invite you to a casting. Once you've had a casting you will receive a final email with an acceptance or decline.
Do I Have To Pay to Join Modeliocious?
Once you've been to a casting and been accepted we will help you set up you online profile. There is a £30 admin fee for this you might question why Modelicious have this fee ? Well someone has to get paid to put your profile on the site! You can send us new pictures and update info to put on your profile at anytime and as many times as you like (there is no extra cost)
Why Do I Have To Go On The Site?
You don't. If you don't want a profile on the site and don't want to pay the £30 fee you really don't have to. We do most of our work via email, sending links to your profile, it's quicker and saves lots of paper work. Lots of our clients just scan through the directory and pick models if your profiles online you won't miss out.
What's an on-line portfolio?
On-line portfolio sites are quickly becoming the preferred route for many established and new models looking for work. For a small cost your portfolio is available 365 days a year to lots of potential employers and an on-line portfolio service will not take a percentage of your earning...you get to keep it all. A good on-line portfolio site will be constantly promoting you and putting your info in front of hundred's if not thousand's of potential employers...something you would find very hard to do in the early stages of your career. Although we offer this service we work mainly in the local area so if your looking to expand to other areas why not try some of the other sites we reccommend.
Do Modelicious find me work?YES! Modelicious was not set up as an agency but with our online portfolios and contacts we find you work, and because we are not an agency we take no commission from any of the work you get via us. We don't promise to find you work (no agency should) ...but we do promise to try our best by passing your information on to potential clients and give you all the help and guidance you need in finding suitable assignments...our reputation depends on it! Remember, unlike an agency, you get to keep every penny you earn...we take nothing.
Modelicious run regular competitions and have our own special projects such as calendars, etc...so it makes sense to enter for these as you could be just what we're looking for.
Do I need A professional Portfolio?
At some point you will, absolutely! And we do ask that you only upload professional pictures onto the Modelicious site. Your pics are the only way an employer has of checking you out for assignment suitability...make sure your first impression is not your last. There's lots more about this in the members area under Modelling Secrets.
Do I Have To Pay For My Portfolio? Not if you don't want to. If you know of a photographer who will work for nothing then go for it, but make sure they are skilled at producing the key shots that the industry demands. Your portfolio is the most important piece of kit in your tool-bag...so get it right if you expect to get work from your pics.
Do I Have To Sign a Contract With Modelicious? No, of course not. If you were on the books of a modelling agency you would be expected to sign a binding contract which would entitle the agency to deduct a commission from your earnings. Modelicious take nothing...whatever you earn is yours to keep...100%
Do You Offer Help and Advice To New Models?Yes we most certainly do. We have a purpose built forum for you to post all your questions on. We also run regular training courses on all things to do with modelling at reduced prices for Modelicious members...another reason for joining. There's also a regular newsletter sent out via e-mail to all members informing them of what's going on for members, what jobs are available, competitions, how to avoid the latest scammers and members assignments etc.
I Want To Join An Agency As Well As Being With Modelicious...Can I Do This?Of course you can. Most agents contracts say you can't sign up with any other modelling agency but Modelious feels differently. The more agents you have the more chance of getting work right...? We do ask that you tell us first just so we can check them out and make sure its not a scam.
I'd Like To Try Glamour Modelling...Do I have To Take All My Clothes Off?No, Glamour modelling has changed a lot over the last few years.Glamour can be anything from swimsuits, bikini's and underwear etc.
Glamour models are the preferred choice for underwear shoots as they have fuller figures than catwalk models who generally don't have a lot in the way of curves. There's an age limit for glamour...nothing under 18...or you won't get published.
Do Modelicious Supply Glamour Models?
The glamour modelling modelicious do is very tasteful we really only do vintage pin up (so your covered), swimwear and underwear plus a few bits of promotional. So if your looking for page 3 work and lads mags sorry Modelicious isn't the place for you.
What's a 'Model Release Form?
Before a photographer can sell your pics you have to sign a form giving him permission to do so. Publishers won't use a pic unless a release form has been signed. If you intend to use your pics for any published material, make sure you have the snappers permission in writing.
Please let us know if you have any questions you'd like us to answer and we'll post them in this section.
